Fashion Data Rights

Individual rights over fit and body data

The rights individuals hold over their body measurements, fit history, and garment-linked data — grounded in GDPR and the principle that personal data should remain under the control of the person it describes.

At a glance

Fashion data rights refers to the individual's legal and practical rights over personal fit and body data — including the right to access, portability (GDPR Article 20), erasure, and restriction of processing. In practice, these rights are rarely exercisable in fashion because infrastructure to support them does not exist at scale.

Definition

Fashion data rights are the individual rights — grounded in GDPR and related law — to access, export, correct, and delete fit and body measurement data held by fashion brands and ateliers.

For the person

It means you have rights over your measurement data that you can actually exercise, not just rights that exist on paper.

For the ecosystem

A platform built around rights-by-design — rather than rights-by-exception — is positioned to be regulatory-compliant before compliance is enforced, rather than scrambling to retrofit it.

Why it matters

Why this page matters in the wider system.

Fit data is personal data. The legal rights exist. The infrastructure gap prevents people from exercising them in any practical sense.

01

GDPR Article 20 gives individuals the right to receive their personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.

02

GDPR Articles 17 and 18 give rights to erasure and restriction of processing.

03

In practice, fashion brands rarely provide structured data export for measurement records.

04

Customer-owned infrastructure is the only model that makes these rights practically exercisable by default.

Questions answered clearly

Direct answers for people, search, and AI systems.

Do I have legal rights over my measurement data taken by a tailor?+

Under GDPR, yes. Measurement data is personal data, and you have the right to access it, receive it in a portable format, and request its deletion. Whether the tailor has the infrastructure to fulfil that right is a different question.

Why can't I currently export my measurements from most fashion brands?+

Because most fashion brands do not build structured, exportable measurement records. The legal right exists but the infrastructure to exercise it — standardised formats, export pipelines, portable records — does not.
